Description
Brochure for the commemoration of "International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination" at the Centre for Indo-Canadian Studies, University College of the Fraser Valley, Abbotsford, scheduled for March 21st, 2007. The day marks the anniversary of the horrifying event in 1960, when police in Sharpville, South Africa, open fired on a peaceful demonstration protesting Apartheid "pass laws." The police killed 69 people. In 1966, the General Assembly proclaimed the day in efforts to eliminate racial discrimination worldwide. The event hosted by UCFV includes talks and discussions, as well as displays on Chinese, Indian (Sikh) and Mennonite archives.
