Foncie's Fotos collection

Fonds/Collection, 2022_12

Foncie Pulice, a well-known, and now famous, Vancouver street photographer shot millions of photographs of Vancouver's locals from 1935-1979. He took photographs of people as they were walking down Vancouver's downtown streets, often capturing them in the moment as they did their regular day-to-day activities. He soon became well-known within the Vancouver community and people began dressing up in their finest outfits and walking downtown trying to get their photo taken by Foncie. Foncie took photos of everyday people regardless of who they were. At a time when many people of colour were not being photographed in studios, Foncie provided a space where many were able to get their photo taken. This collection includes photographs taken by Foncie Pulice and features South Asian Canadians going about their days in Vancouver.
