About Tariq Malik
Tariq Malik (born 1957, Lahore, Pakistan) is an Indo-Canadian novelist, poet, and screenwriter residing in Vancouver.
He immigrated to Canada in 1993, first living in Regina, Saskatchewan, before settling in Vancouver in 1996. Malik holds an MA in English literature from the University of the Punjab and has taught English at the University of Management and Technology in Lahore, Pakistan.
His literary contributions include three novels: Chants of a Minstrel: The Canzoniere (2000), a modern retelling of a Sufi legend; One Percent of Paradise (2006), set against the backdrop of the 9/11 events in Vancouver; and The Longing and the Loss (2014), which explores themes of violence and love across generations.
His work has been praised for its poetic language, compelling characters, and exploration of complex cultural and political issues. Malik is a member of The Writers' Union of Canada.
