About Summer Pervez

Summer Pervez is the Co-Chair of the MENA Film Festival, an academic, and a working filmmaker.

Born in Saudi Arabia to Pakistani parents, they received an American education while growing up internationally. Summer holds a PhD in English from the University of Ottawa and has taught World Literature and Film, with a focus on South Asia, at various universities in Canada and Pakistan since 2002, including the University of the Fraser Valley, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and Lahore School of Economics.

They have published numerous articles on literature, film, and music, and recently taught screenwriting at the Vancouver Film School. Summer is currently writing a monograph on contemporary Pakistani TV dramas and produces shorts, features, and documentaries.
