About Dr. Hassan Javid
Dr. Hassan Javid is an Associate Professor of Sociology in the School of Media and Cultural Studies at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) and a Faculty Associate at the South Asian Studies Institute at UFV.
He received his PhD in Sociology from the London School of Economics, where he was also a Fellow in Political Sociology. Prior to UFV, he was an Associate Professor at Lahore University of Management Sciences in Pakistan.
His research focuses on the legacies of colonialism in South Asia, particularly elite reproduction and the relationship between class, state, and power. He has published on elections, social movements, and democratization in Pakistan, and is currently researching the links between authoritarian rule and digital governance/surveillance.
Dr. Javid shares his sociological perspective on Muslim communities in British Columbia.
