About Haroon Siddiqui

Haroon Siddiqui, CM OOnt (born June 1, 1942, India) is a distinguished Indo-Canadian newspaper journalist, columnist, and editorial page editor emeritus of the Toronto Star.

He immigrated to Canada in 1967 and has reported from over 50 countries, shaping media coverage of Canada for fifty years under ten prime ministers. During his three-decade tenure at the Toronto Star, he served as a foreign affairs analyst, columnist, national editor, and editorial page editor, retiring from journalism in 2015.

Siddiqui has held leadership roles in various organizations, including the Canadian Newspaper Association and the Canadian Civil Liberties Association. He is a member of the Order of Ontario (2000, 2001) for his contributions to a broader definition of Canadian identity.

He received an honorary Doctor of Letters from York University (2001) and the World Press Freedom Award (2002). In 2023, he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Journalism Foundation for his commitment to diversity, journalistic integrity, and social justice. He is the author of the autobiography My Name Is Not Harry: A Memoir.
