About Dr. Anushay Malik
Dr. Anushay Malik is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of International Studies and Global Asia at Simon Fraser University, and a Visiting Faculty for History and Labour Studies at SFU.
Born in Lahore, Pakistan, and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, she immigrated to British Columbia in 2019. As a social historian, her research focuses on labor, migration, and anti-colonial movements, exploring how historical contexts shape individuals' aspirations.
Her current work examines Bengali migrants in Pakistan and South Asian migrants in British Columbia. She co-authored a public history book on South Asians and the labor movement in BC and is expanding this work to include female farmworkers and Muslim migrants.
Dr. Malik has co-curated exhibitions like 'Kaghazi Kashtiyan (Paper Boats)' and 'Truths Not Often Told,' using counter-storytelling to highlight overlooked narratives of migration and resistance.
