About Anosh Irani

Anosh Irani (born 1974, Mumbai, India) is an acclaimed Indo-Canadian novelist and playwright.

He attended the University of British Columbia and Capilano University, and currently teaches creative writing at Simon Fraser University. Irani's bold and courageous choice of subjects challenges readers to confront uncomfortable truths, often focusing on characters for whom hope is a luxury, such as those affected by caste conflict, street children, or transgender individuals.

His works include the novels The Song of Kahunsha (shortlisted for Canada Reads) and The Parcel (finalist for a Governor General's Literary Award and the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize). His play Bombay Black won five Dora Mavor Moore Awards, including Outstanding New Play. In 2019, he published his first short story collection, Translated from the Gibberish, and in 2023, he won the Writers' Trust Engel Findley Award.

Irani lives in North Vancouver.
